My husband is now on the lookout for me. He found these smaller sticks at Whole Foods in the cosmetic department. The end was straight across and fairly thin. I think it worked very well. Lots of line variation possible and the flat end allows for the drybrush effect when most of the ink is used up on the stick. I am pleased with this drawing.
Myrna, I checked at Smart & Final. No flat sticks, but when I picked up a box of skewers, it turned out to be split open and two of them fell on the floor. I figured they'd just be thrown out when the janitor came through, so I rescued them -- they're like pencils without lead basically. If you're interested, I'll figure out some way to get one to you.
